What is counseling like?

Counseling is all about a good fit between client and therapist.  In order to support a good clinical "fit," I offer a complimentary 30 minute consultation at no charge.  The initial consultation is not counseling, it's just a chance for you to ask questions and get to know me a little bit and see if the technology aspect works for you.  If it seems like we are a good fit and decide to work together, we'll schedule your initial intake appointment as soon as possible, usually within 48 hours.

Who do you work with?

I work with teens age 14+ and adults of all ages in both individual and couples counseling.  I do not provide crisis or high needs services due to the part time nature of my practice. I also provide group counseling locally in Clackamas County, OR and virtually in Oregon and Washington States.

How much does it cost?

My rate is $185.00 for a 55 minute individual session, or $210 for a couples session.  I am an Out of Network (OON) provider for most insurance companies, and clients report receiving reimbursement of up to 80% for my services.

I work with Mentaya, an OON billing company to provide hassle free, timely claims submissions and reimbursements if you so choose.

**Inquire about a temporary 6 week hardship scholarship.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an "out of network" provider.  If you choose to use insurance and have out of network coverage, I will gladly help you submit an "out of network" claim for services.

Do you offer distance counseling?

Yes, to clients in the states of Oregon and Washington.

How long will I be in counseling?

Some people benefit from long term or "as needed" access to counseling while others benefit from only a few sessions. When we meet for the first time, we will discuss a strategy to meet your goals and begin to identify a treatment plan which includes an estimated completion date.  As things change we may wish to adjust this plan, and, of course, you have the right to stop counseling at any time.

Is what I say confidential?

I am required by ethics and by law to keep your information private, and I go to great lengths to protect your confidentiality. There are, however, a few circumstances in which I am required by law to share certain information.  We will discuss these circumstances at our initial meeting.  Also, you may wish for me to communicate with other providers or family members on your behalf.  Any signed consent may be revoked by you at any time.

I am a teenager and I want to start counseling.  Will you tell my parents what I say to you?

In the state of Oregon, any person age 14+, and in Washington, any person age 13+ is protected by confidentiality laws.  This means that counseling is private, even if your parents pay for it.  However, sometimes young people freely choose to involve parents and other adults in counseling.  We can discuss how to do this in a way that still respects your privacy and autonomy should you decide to involve other adults in your care.

Can you guarantee success?

Counselors, like any other healthcare provider, cannot guarantee results.  However, many people experience great benefit from counseling.  Since I use a combination of Evidence Based Practices, odds of success are increased.  Other factors which contribute to success include strong commitment on your part, regular attendance, a willingness to sometimes allow things to feel worse before they get better, and having a strong support system (even if that is only me for awhile).
